Ambrotype of Camp Chase that depicts a view of the camp looking over a wooden fence in the foreground. There is a soldier standing guard by the fence with a rifle on his shoulder. Rows of small buildings extend beyond the fence. Men are standing in a dirt street that is formed by a wide path between buildings. The ambrotype has an oval shaped brass mat and preserver, but no case. There is one vertical crack and two horizontal cracks in the glass plate that supports the photograph and scratches in the emulsion of the image. Written notations on paper adhered to the back of the glass state : "-Camp Chase in 1862 - Co. C.W.B. Allison, Commandant. (A prison near Columbus, Ohio, for Confederate Officers captured by the Union forces during the War of the Rebellion.)"
